Two players, ten cards each. Every turn you draw a card (from the face-down stock or the top of the discard pile) and discard one, trying to arrange your cards into melds: three or four of the same rank, or three or more of the same suit in sequence. Cards outside melds are your deadwood (face cards count ten, the ace one): when it's ten or less you may knock and end the hand; at zero it's «gin», worth twenty-five extra. The opponent lays off their deadwood on your melds (not on a gin) and the difference between the two deadwoods is yours; but if they end up with less than you, they've undercut you and take the difference plus twenty-five. First to a hundred wins.
