Four at the table in pairs: you and North against West and East, thirteen cards each and spades always trump. First everyone bids how many tricks they'll take (zero is «nil»): a pair that takes at least what it bid scores ten points per trick, plus one for every extra trick, the «bags», which cost a hundred points at ten; a pair that falls short loses ten points per trick bid. A successful nil is worth a hundred, a failed one minus a hundred. You follow suit; if you can't, you may trump with a spade or discard; spades can't be led until one has fallen. The first pair to three hundred wins.
